Who we are (English Version)

Hello, and welcome to the Basel Akademischer Alpenclub (AACB)! If you landed on this page, chances are that German is not your native language and you’re hoping to find an English version of this site. Unfortunately, there isn’t one, but that doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t be pleased to see you on one of our regular trips to the beautiful Alps of Switzerland. Our members are predominantly staff and students, past and present, of the University of Basel, but we’re not exclusive so if you’d like to join us then please read on.

The most important thing to know about us is that we are not a commercial organization, and apart from one or two courses each year we don’t organize tours with qualified mountain guides. Our members are all mountaineers with varying amounts of experience in their own right, and we organize our own trips where every member of a group is expected to take responsibility for themselves. Anyone can organize a trip, so it’s up to you to make sure that it matches your level of fitness and technical ability.

Still interested? Good. If you can just about struggle by in German then please sign up for our newsletter to be kept up to date. Alternatively, you can find all of our upcoming tours under „Programm„. If you really can’t understand a word of German then you can always contact someone on the committee directly to see whether there are any appropriate trips or events that you could join in with.

We hope that this short overview has got you started, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
